good evening, i'm maureen umeh. >> i'm will thomas of the the hunt is on now at carol avenue in silver spring. tonight we learned what the victim was doing when the car hit her and then took off. matt aklin joins us live. >> reporter: we took the family members off the camera who had just visited her in the hospital. they say she did not look good. doctors are not sure if she will recover. 24-year-old daniela was born in guatemala. most recently she lived and worked about a block from where she was hit around 8:00 saturday night. she was struck a few feet away from her boyfriend's home. >> i heard a thump. it sounded like a car hit another car. >> montgomery county police are doing all they can to find the driver of what they believe was a small dark sedan, possibly a honda. they say the force of the impact caused some damage and even a piece of evidence was left behind. >> it did leave the right-hand side exterior passenger mirror on the scene after it struck her. >> neighbors say this narrow stretch of carol avenue can be hazardous. many drivers ignore the speed limit we're told even

i'm maureen umeh. >> i'm will thomas. police were called out three times to break up a domestic dispute at a home and on the fourth call they were forced to shoot an armed man with a rifle. >> frederick police are still in the process trying to figure out exactly what took place this morning. they say they were responding to that same home for the third time. that's when a man was spotted with a rifle. soon after there was gunfire and one man was dead. frederick police say it was a busy night for them when it came to the 200 block of market street. three times they were called to the same home to break up disputes. >> there were three calls, i believe, not in rapid succession, but within a fairly close proximity timewise. >> reporter: the third response happened just before 6 a.m. when officers got there, they found an injured woman and a man not too far away in this parking area. neighbors pointed the area out to us and we found crime scene tape here as well. here's what police say happened next. >> they were trying to a

fox 5's maureen umeh is here now with the details. >> the suspect is entoiled and determined entering homes in the over-- bold and determined entering homes in the overnight hours. so far no one has been hurt, but police are afraid that could change. upscale neighbors in fairfax county targeted by one thief, homes, cars all hit. police say the suspect is taking advantage of easy opportunity. >> the homes that he's entering at night are all unlocked. the doors are unlocked or open, windows are open which basically makes an easy target for him. >> reporter: police say he's stealing purses and wallets going after just the cash and he's bold, too. some residents have reported seeing someone suspicious peering through windows. and yanking on car doors one after the other. >> the vehicles have mainly been locked, but there have been vehicles that are locked but they have purses or other valuable items sitting in plain sight and he is breaking the windows of those vehicles out, retrieving the items from inside and fleeing. >> reporter: police say so far there have been at least 44 incidents
